Miramar will spruce up Red Road
MIRAMAR--City
commissioners recently approved spending just over $600,000 for landscaping and
irrigation enhancements to Red Road medians.
Assistant City Manager Robert Bell said commissioners had previously accepted
$475,000 from the federal government for the work and for the project's design.
Of that money, $425,000 will go for construction and $50,000 for the design. The
city will provide $150,880 for construction.
The
project involves sprucing up the Red Road medians from Miramar Parkway to
Flamingo Road, as part of the plan for the new Town Center.
The resolution also named Arazoza Brothers Corp. the most qualified contractor,
allowing the company to begin work once a contact is signed.
Bill Pandos of Public Works said the city hopes to start work on the project
this month. Work is expected to take about three months, and there may be some
periodic lane closures, Pandos said.
Brij Garg, Miramar's director of public works, said streetlights have already
been provided for this portion of Red Road, which is immediately west of Town
Center.
"This project will beautify that stretch of Red Road and provide irrigation
and landscaping for the median there," he said.
Garg said the landscaping will include oak, magnolia and different kinds of palm
trees, and shrubbery including Indian Hawthorne, juniper and philodendrons.
Garg said the city also will install pavers and irrigation lines.
